American tennis superstar, Madison Keys is set to play at the 2019 WTA Citi Open in Washington D.C. Madison Keys will begin her campaign in the opening round against Hailey Baptiste who is also from the United States.

Hailey Baptiste enters this tournament following a reasonable few months of the ITF circuit. Baptiste won the ITF USA 18A last month which shows that she is in reasonable form. Washington D.C is Hailey Baptiste hometown which means that she should get good support from the crowd. Hailey Baptiste is only 17 years old and this is her first full WTA tournament. This is expected to be a tough match for Hailey Baptiste as she is playing against the number 2 seed.

On the other side of the coin, Madison Keys is playing her first tournament since Wimbledon. Keys had a poor run at Wimbledon as she was eliminated in the second round. It has been a decent few months for Madison Keys as she made the quarterfinals at the French Open. 2019 has been a reasonable season for Madison Keys as she won the Charleston Open earlier in the year. Returning to US soil should ensure that Keys is playing in familiar conditions. Keys has an outstanding record when playing on US soil as she has a 73% win rate at the US Open.

This is going to be the first time that Madison Keys and Hailey Baptiste will be playing each other at a WTA event.

Hailey Baptiste is a very talented player and she has won some big tournaments of the ITF circuit. That being said, I see Baptiste losing this match. Madison Keys is an elite player and she has been playing well recently. Keys is always at her best around the US Open and I see her showing her class in this tournament. I am picking Madison Keys to win this match in straight sets.

Madison Keys
