Madison Keys and Kristina Mladenovic meet in the second round of the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics.

Madison Keys is coming off a straight sets win over Danka Kovinic that took 18 games to decide. Keys continues her breakout season by being wildly consistent, and she now has a chance to really shine in her first olympic appearance. Keys is a top-10 player for the first time in her career and has now won 18 of her last 24 sets overall. Keys has always had the raw potential and overwhelming power, but her control has improved and she’s making far less unforced errors. Keys is a dangerous player in her current form. Keys has won 12 of his last 16 matches on hard court.

Kristina Mladenovic is coming off a straight sets win over Aleksandra Krunic that took 17 games to decide. Mladenovic has been a top-30 player for about a full year now and has really shined this season as a doubles player. Mladenovic has had her fair share of hiccups in singles play, but she’s been a lot more competitive recently and is an upset waiting to happen when her serve is on point. Mladenovic an be a sneaky second round opponent if not taken seriously. Mladenovic has three wins over top-10 players since 2015, including a win this year over Belinda Bencic. Mladenovic has lost six of her last nine matches on hard court.

These two have split the previous two meetings, as Keys won the 2015 China Open and Mladenovic won the 2015 Wuhan Open. this will be the third match on hard court.

We’ve been backing Keys for a while this season and that’s not changing. She’s finally arrived as a top tier tennis player and is only getting better considering her age. Keys has a chance to take her career to the next step and she’ll make the most of it here given her current form.

Give me Keys in straight sets.
