Madison Keys and Lin Zhu meet in the second round of the 2019 tennis US Open..
Madison Keys is coming off a straight sets win over Misaki Doi that took 18 games to decide. In the victory, Keys won 87 percent of her first serve points and 41 percent of her second serve points. Keys won 67 percent of her total service points and converted on five of her 10 break points. Keys got 58 percent of her first serves in play, saved two of her three break points and hit four aces. Keys can clean up the unforced errors, but her play was good enough to win each of the last eight games. Keys hopes to make the third round of a grand slam for the seventh time in her last eight tries. Keys has won seven straight matches on hard court.
Lin Zhu is coming off a straight sets win over Xinyu Wang that took 19 games to decide. In the victory, Zhu won 56 percent of her first serve points and 53 percent of her second serve points. Zhu won 55 percent of her total service points and converted on seven of her 13 break points. Zhu got 65 percent of her first serves in play and saved three of her seven break points. It wasn’t the prettiest match for the 25-year-old Zhu, but she earns her first grand slam victory and has now won 10 of her last 13 matches if you include qualifying and ITF play. Zhu looks to make the third round of a grand slam for the first time in her career. Zhu has won five of her last six matches on hard court.
There’s no match history between these players.
Zhu is finding ways to win matches these past few weeks, but the problem is her serve isn’t good or consistent enough to hang with the powerful Keys on hard court. This is a match where Keys should have a lot of balls in her wheelhouse and simply crush her way to victory. This should be a painless match for the American.
Keys in straights.
