Madison Keys vs Tatjana Maria 4/3/19 Charleston Open Tennis Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

American tennis superstar, Madison Keys will be playing at the 2019 WTA Charleston Open where she will begin her campaign against Tatjana Maria from Germany.

Madison Keys received an opening round bye which means that her tournament starts in the second round. Prior to arriving at this tournament, Madison Keys played at the Indian Wells Open and Miami Open. Both tournaments were very disappointing for Keys as she failed to win a single match. The last time that Madison Keys won a match was at the Australian Open which was in January. It is important to note that Madison Keys has a very strong record at the Charleston Open as she finished second at this tournament in 2015.

On the other side of the coin, Tatjana Maria won her opening round match with ease against Natalia Vikhlyantseva who she beat in straight sets. During the win, Tatjana Maria received serve exceptionally well as she won 50% of her return points. Maria also served well as she won 80% of her service games. Tatjana Maria has been in good form as she made the fourth round of the Miami Open and the semifinals of a WTA125K event in Mexico. Considering her recent form, Tatjana Maria will be confident in being able to cause an upset in this match.

Tatjana Maria and Madison Keys have played twice in the past with Keys winning on both occasions. The most recent match between these two players was in 2017 at the US Open where Madison Keys won in straight sets.

As far as this match is concerned, I am going to pick Tatjana Maria to cause an upset and beat Madison Keys. Keys has looked very poor over the past few months and she seems to lack confidence in her ability to win. Tatjana Maria has been playing well and I see her getting her first win against Madison Keys.

Pick:
Tatjana Maria
