Italian tennis player, Marco Cecchinato will be playing at the 2019 ATP Bavarian International. Cecchinato will begin his campaign against Martin Kližan from Slovakia.
Marco Cecchinato last played at the Monte Carlo Masters where he was eliminated in an early round. It was a poor performance by Cecchinato as he struggled with his serve. Cecchinato only won 64% of his first serve points and that caused the Italian to concede 5 service games. That being said, Marco Cecchinato is a very strong clay court player and the Italian has proven his skills on this surface with a big result in the 2018 French Open. Cecchinato has already won an ATP title on clay this season as the Italian superstar won the ATP Argentina Open in February.
On the other side of the coin, Martin Kližan played in the opening round of this tournament where he beat Ernests Gulbis in straight sets. It was a solid display by Martin Kližan as he impressed with his returning. Kližan won 50% of his receiving points which allowed him to break his opponent’s serve on 5 occasions. Martin Kližan also won 80% of his service games which allowed him to seal the win with some ease. This will be a much tougher match for Martin Kližan as he is playing a seeded opponent.
This will be the first time that Martin Kližan and Marco Cecchinato will be playing each other at an ATP event.
Taking everything into consideration, I am going to pick Marco Cecchinato to win this match. While Martin Kližan played well in the opening round, I see him struggling in this match since Cecchinato is a much stronger clay court player. Marco Cecchinato has an exceptional record on clay where he has won 3 ATP title and I see him being too good for Klizan in this match.
