The Line: -- Over/Under:
Margarita Gasparyan and Greetje Minnen meet in the second round of the 2019 tennis Libema Open.
Margarita Gasparyan is coming off a three sets win over Viktoria Kuzmova that took 31 games to decide. In the victory, Gasparyan won 77 percent of her first serve points and 36 percent of her second serve points. Gasparyan won 62 percent of her total service points and converted on three of her 10 break points. Gasparyan got 64 percent of her first serves in play and saved six of her 10 break points. It was one of th bigger recent wins for Gasparyan, as she entered this tournament losing five of her last seven matches and struggling with her serve. Gasparyan still must clean up the unforced errors, but her first round win was a step in the right direction. Gasparyan looks to win back-to-back matches for the first time since Istanbul. Gasparyan has split her last two matches on grass court.
Greetje Minnen is coming off a straight sets win over Mona Barthel that took 22 games to decide. In the victory, Minnen won 73 percent of her first serve points and 53 percent of her second serve points. Minnen won 65 percent of her total service points and converted on three of her five break points. Minnen got 58 percent of her first serves in play and saved four of her five break points. Minnen has now won six of her last seven sets when you include qualifying for this tournament, and that’s good for her confidence and adds reps to what limited experience she has on this stage. Anything to get Minnen going should be considered progress given that she’s played very few matches on the main tour. Minnen has won four of her last five matches on grass court.
There’s no match history between these two players.
Gasparyan has to clean up the unforced errors and stop double faulting so much, but she should win this match regardless. Minnen is still very green to the main tour and needs to build some sort of track record before bettors can get behind her. While she’s had some success in ITF play and has had her moments in qualifying, Minnen has to prove she can beat decent players when it counts. Until then, you have to back experience.
Gasparyan makes the quarterfinals.
