Margarita Gasparyan vs. Serena Williams 2015 Wimbledon Tennis Pick, Odds, Prediction

Margarita Gasparyan and Serena Williams meet in the first round of the 2015 Wimbledon.

Margarita Gasparyan has been busy qualifying and building on what has been a career year for the 20-year-old. Gasparyan has won three singles titles and one doubles title this year, with her most recent coming in Croissy-Beaubourg in April. Gasparyan has quickly moved up the ranks and earned the right to start playing some decent competition in the WTA. Gasparyan has a strong forehand and does a solid job of covering ground across the court. This is Gasparyan’s second appearance in a grand slam, as she was eliminated in the first round of this year’s French Open. Gasparyan was eliminated in the first round of qualifying in last year’s U.S. Open.

Serena Williams has not played a match since winning the French Open, and she’s won 14 of her last 16 matches overall. Serena has been finding ways to win lately despite not being in her best form. Five of Serena’s last six matches have gone the distance, and she’s lost the first set in four of those matches. Serena has been making way too many unforced errors and the elite power hasn’t exactly been there. Still, Serena is still the favorite for a reason and has won this tournament five times. Serena hasn’t been eliminated in the first round of a major since the 2012 French Open. Serena has never been bounced in the first round of the Wimbledon.

This will be the first time these two have ever played one another.

Gasparyan is somebody to watch out for, as she’s really starting to turn the corner at a young age and could be a regular soon enough in these tournaments. However, we all know Serena is a different type of player and is at a huge advantage over the Russian. Look for Serena to win a rare quick match in straight sets.
