World number 6, Caroline Garcia won her opening round match at the WTA Rogers Cup event in Montreal. The French superstar has now made it into the round of 16 where she will take on Maria Sharapova. These are two of the best tennis players in the world at the moment so we should be greatly entertained in this match.
Caroline Garcia had a very poor Wimbledon campaign as she was eliminated in the opening round of the event. The French player looked tired and that might have been why she had some time off after the grand slam event. With the US Open only weeks away, Garcia is back playing and she looked refreshed in her opening round tie. The world number 6 had a little slip up in the opening set but came back strongly to win in 3 sets. Caroline Garcia seems to be hitting the ball very well and will feel that she is in good form heading into this match. This will not be an easy match for the world number 6 but she will feel that she is good enough to win.
On the other side of the court, Maria Sharapova looks like a player on a mission. The Russian has looked dominant in her opening round matches and will feel that she has a great chance of running deep in this tournament. This will be the first major test for the Russian superstar and it will be interesting to see if she can step up her game and challenge the 6th best player in the world.
This should be a very close contest which I expect Caroline Garcia to win. The French superstar is the better player and I think she will have enough skill and determination to eliminate the Russian from this tournament. Expect this match to last all three sets since both players are good enough to win a set of each other.
