Maria Sharapova and Coco Vandeweghe meet in the quarterfinals of the 2015 Wimbledon.
Maria Sharapova is coming off a straight sets win over Zarina Diyas, which lasted an hour and a half. Sharapova has yet to drop a set this tournament and has played no more than an hour and a half in a single match. Sharapova is winning at least 72 percent of her first serve points and 29 percent of her second serve points. Sharapova has combined for eight aces and 36 winners in her last two matches. Sharapova could do a far better job with her second serve, but she’s doing a good job of hitting her spots and ending points quickly. Sharapova hasn’t been eliminated in a quarterfinal of a grand slam since the 2009 French Open. Sharapova hasn’t reached the semifinal of the Wimbledon since 2011.
Coco Vandeweghe is coming off a straight sets win over Lucie Safarova, which lasted nearly two hours. Vandeweghe has yet to drop a set this tournament and has played under an hour and a half in two her four matches. Vandeweghe is winning at least 73 percent of her first serve points and 55 percent of her second serve points. Vandeweghe has combined for 12 aces and 42 winners in her last two matches. Vandeweghe is dominating her service game and has had 22 or less unforced errors in her last three matches. This will be the first time Vandeweghe has played in the quarterfinal of a grand slam. Vandeweghe has three wins over a top-10 player since 2014.
This will be the first time these two will play one another.
We made some nice money backing Vandeweghe in an underdog role her last match, and I think she can continue to impress. Vandeweghe has played some of the more consistent tennis on the women's side and Sharapova’s service game has shown some flaws as of late.
