The Line: -- Over/Under:
The WTA Rogers Cup has reached the second round Maria Sharapova will take on Daria Kasatkina. Both players are exceptionally skilled and have shown that throughout their careers. With many of the top players out of the Rogers Cup, this is a tournament that both players will want to do well in so that makes this match vital for both camps. This should ensure that we get a hard-fought tennis match.
Daria Kasatkina is the number 12 seed for this tournament and will look to show that in this match. It has been an interesting few months for the 21-year-old player as she made many deep runs in tournaments including Wimbledon and the French Open but has failed to win any titles. This will be hugely frustrating for Daria Kasatkina and that should ensure that she will be determined in her attempt to win this tournament. This is not the easiest second round draw for Daria Kasatkina as she has drawn a very tough player in Maria Sharapova. It will be interesting to see how she handles this match.
Maria Sharapova, on the other hand, will hope that she can return to the top of her game. The former world number 1 has not been at her best since her ban and it seems like she is a shade of her past. That being said, Sharapova was very impressive in her opening round win and will hope that is a sign of things to come. The Russian superstar is hugely experienced having won over 30 WTA titles in her career. If the determination to return to the top is there for Maria Sharapova, it will only be a matter of time.
This game is very hard to predict because we don’t know how Maria Sharapova will play. Will we see the Sharapova that was playing exceptionally well at the French Open or the Sharapova that looked like a gone case at Wimbledon? Its very hard to tell but I think we will see a Sharapova that will fight because she wants to win this tournament. Sharapova has never won this tournament and I think that will ensure that she is determined to do well. That focus should be enough for me to pick the former world number 1 as the winner for this match.
