Maria Sharapova vs. Zarina Diyas 2015 Wimbledon Tennis Pick, Odds, Prediction

Maria Sharapova and Zarina Diyas meet Monday in the fourth round of the 2015 Wimbledon.

Maria Sharapova is coming off a straight sets win over Irina-Camelia Begu, which took less than an hour and a half. Sharapova has yet to drop a set this tournament and is winning at least 72 percent of her first serve points. Sharapova has combined for five aces and 57 winners in her first three matches. Sharapova has also had 15 or less unforced errors in two of her first three matches. Sharapova is hitting her spots and has lost no more than seven games in a single match this tournament. Still, the 21 double faults for Sharapova has to be concerning getting deeper in the tournament. Sharapova has lost in the fourth round in four of her last six grand slam appearances. Sharapova has not surpassed the fourth round in seven of her last eight Wimbledon appearances.

Zarina Diyas is fresh off a straight sets win over Andrea Petkovic, which finished in just under two hours. Diyas has dropped just one set so far and is winning at least 60 percent of her first serve points. Diyas has combined for 10 aces, 58 winners and 67 unforced errors through her first three matches. Diyas has also won at least 57 percent of her second serve points and has lost just 14 games in her last two matches. Diyas is playing well but must trim her unforced errors if she has any hope of pulling off this career-changing victory. Diyas has never made it past the fourth round of a grand slam in her young career. Diyas was bounced in the fourth round of last year’s Wimbledon.

These two have met just once in the past, which was this year’s Australian Open, a match that Sharapova won in straight sets. In fact, Diyas won just two games in the match. This will be the first time these two meet on grass.

Diyas has a lot of time to climb to the top of the totem pole, but this may be a little too soon. Diyas hasn’t had much success against some of the top players and was simply outmatched earlier this year against Sharapova. I expect a closer match with the same result.

Maria Sharapova -6.5
