Marin Cilic and Novak Djokovic meet in the semifinals of the tennis Cincinnati Open.
Marin Cilic is coming off a straight sets win over Pablo Carreno-Busta that took 23 games to decide. Djokovic can still take his game to another level, as he was broken three times, but he’s been able to find a winning formula and is currently playing his most consistent tennis since returning from injury. As long as the unforced errors are down, Djokovic has to love his chances to beat anybody on the planet. Djokovic has a chance to make his third final appearance of the year and his 101st final appearance of his career. Djokovic has a chance to make his first Masters Series final appearance since the 2017 Italian Open. Djokovic has won six of his last seven matches on hard court.
These two have played 16 times and Djokovic has won 14 of those meetings. The most recent match was in this years Queen's Club Championships, a match Cilic won in three sets. Djokovic is 10-0 against Cilic on outdoor hard court.
Cilic has won the last two matches against Djokovic, so he certainly has a chance in this match. However, Djokovic has been the more consistent player as of late and is much easier to trust with his return ability.
