Philipp Kohlschreiber vs Marin Cilic
|Date & Time||Tuesday October 30, 2018, 10:00 PM (EDT)|
The Line: -- Over/Under:
Marin Cilic will play Philipp Kohlschreiber in the second round of the 2018 ATP Paris Masters.
Marin Cilic enters directly into the second round after he received an opening round bye due to his high seeding. As it currently stands, Marin Cilic is world number 6. It has been a tough few months for Marin Cilic as he has only won 1 game since the US Open. The biggest issue for Cilic has been related to his ability to win return games as he has been averaging only 1 return game won per set since the start of October. It is surprising to see such a drop in form for Cilic as he was playing exceptional tennis in North America as he made the semifinal of the Cincinnati Masters and the quarterfinals of the Rogers Cup and US Open tournaments. Cilic has a good record in Paris as he made the quarterfinal of this tournament last season and the semifinal of this tournament in 2016. With such a good record at this event, Cilic will be confident he can turn his recent form around.
On the other side of the court, Philipp Kohlschreiber enters this match having beaten Robin Haase in 3 sets during their first-round clash. During that match, Philipp Kohlschreiber returned serve exceptionally well as he won 5 breakpoints to come back from one set down to get the overall win. This is expected to be a very tough match for Philipp Kohlschreiber as he is playing a top 10 ranked opponent although he will have some confidence considering he beat Cilic earlier in the season at the Indian Wells Open.
Philipp Kohlschreiber and Marin Cilic have played 11 times in the past with Philipp Kohlschreiber having the better record of 7-4.
This should be a close match but I am going to predict Marin Cilic to win. While Philipp Kohlschreiber has a great record against the world number 6, Cilic seems to find his best form at the Paris Masters and I am expecting that to happen again. Cilic is the stronger player and I see him beating Philipp Kohlschreiber.
