Marton Fucsovics and Matteo Berrettini meet in the semifinals of the 2019 tennis Sofia Open.

Marton Fucsovics got through his quarterfinal match when Roberto Bautista-Agut had to withdraw due to an illness. Fucsovics now enters this match with a serious rest advantage, and it comes at the right time considering he played almost three hours against Yannick Maden. Fucsovics has played well in his first two matches, but he must get a higher percentage of first serves in play if he’s going to advance any further in this tournament. Fucsovics has a chance to make his second career singles final appearance and first since last years Geneva Open. Fucsovics has won six of his last eight matches on indoor hard court.

Matteo Berrettini is coming off a three sets win over Fernando Verdasco that took 32 games to decide. In the victory, Berrettini won 76 percent of his first serve points and 56 percent of his second serve points. Berrettini won 68 percent of his total service points and converted on three of his eight break points. Berrettini just outworked a top-30 player, and it’s easily his biggest win in quite some time when you consider he entered this tournament losing six of his last nine matches. This success can certainly help set the tone of 2019 for the young Italian. Berrettini has a chance to make his second career singles final appearance and first since last years Swiss Open. Berrettini has won four of his last six matches on indoor hard court.

These two have played once, which was in Irving (challenger play) of last year, a match Berrettini won in straight sets. The match took 19 games to be decided.

Fucsovics has the rest advantage, which can be key considering neither of these guys have made many recent deep runs in tournaments. However, Berrettini is playing the better tennis at the moment and had his way in the first time they met. Berrettini won in less than an hour and a half and had great success with his return.

I like Berrettini to reach his second career final.
