Tennis Club Weissenhof
M. Berrettini +163 / N. Kyrgios -225
Australian tennis player, Nick Kyrgios will be playing at the 2019 ATP Stuttgart Open. Kyrgios will begin his tournament campaign against Matteo Berrettini from Italy.
Matteo Berrettini played at the French Open where he was eliminated in the second round by Casper Ruud. It was a poor tournament for Berrettini as he had done very well prior to the event was would have expected to make a deep run into the event. Matteo Berrettini played at the ATP Hungarian Open which he won and followed that tournament result by finishing second at the ATP Bavarian International. Moving onto the grass season will be a negative for Matteo Berrettini as the Italian is very strong on clay while his record on grass is weak. This is a tough opening round fixture for Matteo Berrettini as he is playing against a very accomplished opponent in Nick Kyrgios.
Looking at Nick Kyrgios, the Australian pulled out of the French Open after making disrespectful comments about the tournament. It seems like Kyrgios is fit but his attitude has been costly in the past and that problem seems to be currently present for the player. Nick Kyrgios last played at the Italian Open where he was eliminated in the second round. It was a very poor clay court season for Nick Kyrgios as he only won 1 match in 3 tournaments. Moving to grass will be a boost for Nick Kyrgios as he has always done well in grass court tournaments. Kyrgios has made the quarterfinals at Wimbledon in the past. Nobody has ever doubted the talent possessed by Nick Kyrgios but the Australian has played with a poor attitude in recent times and his performances have suffered as a result.
This will be the first time that Nick Kyrgios and Matteo Berrettini will be playing each other at an ATP event.
Nick Kyrgios has the potential to win this tournament but the Australian has been very poor recently and his attitude towards the French Open has only drawn criticism. Such a reception can either boost or hinder Nick Kyrgios but looking at past history, it is likely to make the Australian play poorly. Matteo Berrettini is a very skillful player and he has been in very good form over the past few months. Matteo Berrettini recently won the Hungarian Open and I see him starting his campaign in Stuttgart with a victory.
