Canadian tennis superstar, Milos Raonic has made it into the third round of the 2019 ATP Indian Wells Open where he will play against Marcos Giron from the United States.
Marcos Giron had a big win in the previous round as he beat the number 23 seed, Alex de Minaur, in 3 sets. It was a courageous performance by Giron as he lost the opening set but fought back to win the second and third sets. During the victory, Marcos Giron impressed with his returning as he won 42% of his receiving points which allowed him to break Alex de Minaur’s serve on 5 occasions. It is important to note that Giron struggled with his own serve as she allowed his opponent to win 4 return games.
On the other side of the court, Milos Raonic won his previous match in straight sets against Sam Querrey. During the win, Raonic served exceptionally well as he hit 18 aces and won 79% of his service points. Milos Raonic won all of his service games and broke Querrey serve once to set up an easy win. Milos Raonic has been in decent form this season as he had a strong Australian Open campaign. Raonic’s record at the Indian Wells Open is relatively strong as he finished second in 2016.
This will be the first time that Milos Raonic and Marcos Giron will be playing each other at an ATP event.
Taking everything into consideration, I am expecting this to be a very one-sided match. Milos Raonic is a class above Marcos Giron and the Canadian is serving very well which makes him almost impossible to break. Giron has issues with his serving and against an elite player like Raonic, it is likely to be costly. I see only one result and that is a victory for Milos Raonic.
