The Line: -- Over/Under:
Naomi Osaka and Anett Kontaveit meet in the semifinals of the 2019 tennis Stuttgart.
Naomi Osaka is coming off a three sets win over Donna Vekic that took 32 games to decide. In the victory, Osaka won 70 percent of her first serve points and 55 percent of her second serve points. Osaka won 65 percent of her total service points and converted on three of her seven break points. Osaka has won four of her five sets to get to this point and has produced a combined six breaks. Osaka has a chance to win three straight matches for the first time since winning the Australian Open. Osaka hopes to make her second final appearance of the year and the sixth of her career. Osaka has won five of her last seven matches on clay court.
Anett Kontaveit is coming off a three sets win over Victoria Azarenka that took 27 games to decide. In the victory, Kontaveit won 70 percent of her first serve points and 44 percent of her second serve points. Kontaveit won 60 percent of her total service points and converted on five of her 11 break points. Kontaveit went from being a game away from a loss to finding a way to win the second set and eventually close the deal due to her opponents retirement. Azarenka was forced to quit the match after it appeared a shoulder injury started to take place. Kontaveit has quietly now won nine of her last 11 matches overall. Kontaveit hopes to make her fifth final appearance of her career and the first since last years Wuhan Open. Kontaveit has won 10 of her last 12 matches on clay court.
These two have played three times and Osaka has won all three meetings, including the most recent in 2018 in Dubai. Two of the three matches were decided in straight sets. This will be the first meeting on clay.
Kontaveit is playing well, but her second serve is still questionable at best and she probably loses to Azarenka if it weren't for a shoulder injury. Osaka has been a little shaky at times in her own right, but she will feast on a weak second serve and could push Kontaveit around the court. There’s also a clear h2h advantage for Osaka here.
I like Osaka to make the final.
