Ashleigh Barty is set to play against Naomi Osaka in the final of the 2019 WTA China Open in Beijing.
Ashleigh Barty was outstanding in the previous round as she defeated Kiki Bertens in 3 sets. It was an extremely close match but Barty held her nerve to win the final set via a tiebreaker. During the victory, Ashleigh Barty served exceptionally well as she hit 9 aces which helped her win 64% of her service games and 80% of her service games. The returning was also solid from Barty as she won 3 return games. It has been an outstanding tournament for Barty as she has looked very controlled and has beaten elite players like Petra Kvitova. Ashleigh Barty made the semifinals of the Wuhan Open last week and she looks in outstanding touch as she enters this match.
Looking at her opponent, Naomi Osaka has also been playing exceptionally well. Osaka defeated Bianca Andreescu in the quarterfinals and continued her good form by beating Caroline Wozniacki in the previous round. It was a comfortable win for Osaka as she won in straight sets. The serving was very strong from Naomi Osaka as she won 65% of her service points which allowed her to win all of her service games. Osaka has only lost 1 set in this tournament and is looking in outstanding touch having recently won the Japan Open. Considering her form, Osaka will be confident as she enters this match.
Naomi Osaka and Ashleigh Barty have played each other 3 times in the past with Osaka winning once and Barty winning on 2 occasions. These two players last met at the Nottingham Open in 2018 where Barty won in straight sets.
This is going to be an absolutely incredible contest since we have two of the top players playing each other for a major title. There are many arguments to back Ashleigh Barty but I am going to side with Naomi Osaka for this match. Osaka had a much easier semifinal match and having already won a close contest against Andreescu, she seems better placed. It should be a close contest but I see Naomi Osaka winning.
