Tennis | Dominika Cibulková vs Naomi Osaka
Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

Naomi Osaka will take on Dominika Cibulková in the second round of the 2018 WTA Pan Pacific Open.

Dominika Cibulková defeated Nao Hibino in the opening round of this tournament in a match which went all three sets. Dominika Cibulková received the ball exceptionally well as she managed to break her opponents serve on 5 occasions. That being said, Dominika Cibulková had issues with her own serve as she had her serve broken twice and also conceded 4 double faults. While the serving issues were overlooked in the opening match since Dominika Cibulková was too strong for Hibino, they will become a big issue in this match since Osaka is an exceptional player.

Naomi Osaka, on the other hand, will be playing her first match of the tournament after she got an opening round bye due to her high seeding. Osaka enters this event having won the US Open and in great form. This tournament is being played in Japan and the fans have been showing great adulation towards Osaka for her victory and the support should give the player a big boost. Naomi Osaka is in exceptional form and playing at home so it is going to be hard for anyone to beat the talented Japanese player.

These two players have played once in the past and that match was in 2016 at this tournament. On that occasion, Naomi Osaka won comfortably in straight sets. That victory is another boost for Osaka since she will have the confidence of knowing she has won against Dominika Cibulková in the past.

All in all, I am going to pick Naomi Osaka to win this match. Osaka is in great form having won the US Open and she now has the ability to play in Japan where her home fans are showing her huge support. With so many things in Osaka’s favor, I see the Japanese superstar making the third round.

Naomi Osaka
