Japanese tennis superstar Naomi Osaka will be playing at the 2019 WTA China Open in Beijing. Naomi Osaka will begin her tournament against Jessica Pegula from the United States.
Jessica Pegula last played at the Wuhan Open where she lost in the opening loss to Polona Hercog. It was an embarrassing defeat for Pegula as she only won 1 game in the entire match. Jessica Pegula won the Citi Open at the start of August but her form has dropped significantly since that tournament as she has not made it past the opening round of a tournament since that result. Pegula is 0-4 in her last 4 matches and it is going to be tough for her to turn her form around as she is playing the number 4 seed in the opening round.
Looking at Naomi Osaka, the Japanese superstar last played at the Japan Open which she won. It was a big tournament for Osaka as she managed to win on home soil while defeating players like Elise Mertens. Naomi Osaka had a decent North American season as she made the quarterfinals of the Rogers Cup and Cincinnati Masters but a fourth-round exit at the US Open has resulted in her dropping ranking points. This tournament will be a good chance for Naomi Osaka to recover some ranking points.
This will be the first time that Naomi Osaka and Jessica Pegula will be playing each other at a WTA event.
I see this being a very one-sided match that Naomi Osaka wins. Naomi Osaka has been in good form as she recently won the Japan Open. In contrast, Jessica Pegula looks in terrible touch and I see the American lacking the confidence required to win. Osaka is the stronger player and I see her winning this match in straight sets.
