The number 2 seed, Naomi Osaka has made it into the semi-finals of the 2019 WTA Brisbane International where she will face Lesia Tsurenko from Ukraine.
Lesia Tsurenko had a simple quarterfinal clash as the Ukrainian player won in straight sets. During the win, Tsurenko served exceptionally well as she had a first serve percentage of over 70% which allowed her to win 90% of her service games. In addition to that, Lesia Tsurenko also received serve very well as she won over 40% of her receiving points which resulted in 4 return game wins. This is expected to be a far tougher match for Lesia Tsurenko but judging by her form, she will feel confident about this fixture.
On the other side of the coin, Naomi Osaka fought back well to win her quarterfinal match in 3 sets. During the win, Osaka had a tough opening set but her comeback was impressive as she 4 break points in the final 2 sets. During the match, Osaka served exceptionally well as she hit 11 aces and won all of her service games in the last 2 sets. Osaka has established herself as one of the top players in the world and since her US Open win, she has looked close to unbeatable. Looking at her recent success, Naomi Osaka will enter this match as the favourite.
Lesia Tsurenko and Naomi Osaka have only played once in the past. The match was at the US Open last season where Naomi Osaka won in straight sets.
As far as this match is concerned, I am going to pick Naomi Osaka to win. While Lesia Tsurenko has had a good tournament, Osaka is simply playing on a much higher level at the moment. I see Naomi Osaka winning this fixture and making the final of the WTA Brisbane International.
