At the 2019 WTA Brisbane International, Naomi Osaka is set to play against Sofia Kenin from the United States.

Naomi Osaka won her opening match in 3 sets as she defeated Maria Sakkari from Greece. It was a close contest but Osaka showed her class during the important points which allowed her to win the contest. The receiving was very strong from Naomi Osaka as she won 40% of her receiving points which allowed her to break her opponent’s serve on 4 occasions. Osaka will be keen to defend her Australian Open title so the Japanese superstar will be hoping to build some momentum at this tournament.

On the other side of the coin, Sofia Kenin defeated Anastasija Sevastova in straight sets in the opening round. It was a comfortable win for Kenin as he controlled the entire match. During the win, Sofia Kenin won 82% of her service games and 3 return games. 2019 was an outstanding year for Sofia Kenin as she managed to establish herself amongst the top players on the WTA tour. Kenin looks to be playing with great confidence but she must be at her best if she wishes to challenge Naomi Osaka.

Naomi Osaka and Sofia Kenin have played each other 3 times in the past. Kenin has won on 2 occasions while Osaka has won once. The most recent match between these two players was last season at the Cincinnati Masters where Sofia Kenin won following a retirement from Naomi Osaka.

Looking at this match, I am going to pick Naomi Osaka to win. Sofia Kenin has been in outstanding touch but I don’t see her being at the level where she can beat Osaka when the Japanese player is in good form. Naomi Osaka looked very solid during her previous match and I see her being good enough to win this contest and secure a spot in the quarterfinals.
