The Line: -- Over/Under:
Japanese tennis superstar, Naomi Osaka has made it into the quarterfinals of the 2019 WTA Cincinnati Masters in Ohio. At this stage of the tournament, Naomi Osaka will play against Sofia Kenin from the United States.
Naomi Osaka had to battle hard to defeat Hsieh Su-Wei in the previous round. It was a close match that lasted 3 sets. Osaka held her nerve well to win vital points in the final set which allowed her to win the match. Despite the result, Osaka will not be happy with her form as she struggled for most of the match. The serving was especially poor from Naomi Osaka as she lost 4 service games during the match. Fortunately for Naomi Osaka, Hsieh made errors and it allowed the Japanese superstar to capitalize during return games. Osaka won 5 return games during the match. This is expected to be a much tougher match for Osaka as Kenin is in outstanding form.
Looking at Sofia Kenin, the American defeated Elina Svitolina in the previous round. It was a very strong performance by Kenin as she defeated the number 7 seed in straight sets. During the win, Sofia Kenin won 82% of her service games and 3 return games. The receiving was especially impressive as Kenin won 43% of her receiving points. It has been a strong few months for Sofia Kenin as she recently won the Mallorca Open. Furthermore, Sofia Kenin made the semifinals of the Rogers Cup last week. At the Rogers Cup, Kenin defeated the likes of Svitolina and Barty. Considering her recent form, Sofia Kenin will be confident about her ability to win this match.
Naomi Osaka and Sofia Kenin have played each other twice in the past. Both Osaka and Kenin have won on one occasion. The most recent match between these two players was in 2018 at the Fed Cup where Osaka won in straight sets.
Naomi Osaka has been struggling over the past few months and I see her losing this match. Sofia Kenin has been in outstanding form and she has been beating the best players in the world. Kenin is playing on home soil and she should be boosted by the support from her home fans. With recent form being a massive factor, I see Sofia Kenin beating Naomi Osaka.
