Pablo Cuevas vs. Nick Kyrgios
|Date & Time||Wednesday January 20, 2016, 10:00 PM (EST)|
The Line: Nick Kyrgios -750 / Pablo Cuevas +525 -- Over/Under:
Nick Kyrgios and Pablo Cuevas meet Wednesday in the second round of the 2016 Australian Open.
Nick Kyrgios is coming off a straight sets win over Pablo Carreno Busta. In the victory, Kyrgios got 71 percent of his first serves in play, won 74 percent of those points and hit 16 aces. Kyrgios also had 37 winners and just 23 unforced errors. When focused, Kyrgios has the potential to beat anybody on tour, especially when his first serve gets in play a high percentage. Kyrgios just has to stay focused and can’t let potential frustration leak into his game. As long as Kyrgios takes this tournament serious, he’ll make another deep run in his home country. Kyrgios has been bounced in the second round of a grand slam twice in his career.
Pablo Cuevas is coming off a straight sets victory over Yoshihito Nishioka. In the win, Cuevas got 58 percent of his first serves in play, won 80 percent of those points and hit 13 aces. Cuevas also had 36 winners and 48 unforced errors. Cuevas has had a more successful career in doubles, but he did reach two singles finals last year at the Brasil Open and TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Open. However, in order for Cuevas to have any chance in this match, he has to trim down his unforced errors and get a much higher percentage of his first serve in play. Cuevas has made it to the third round of a grand slam just once, which was last year’s French Open.
This will be the first time these two meet on the tennis court.
Cuevas has the advantage as far as experience is concerned, but he’s simply outclassed in this match when it comes to talent. A dialed in Kyrgios should win this match in straight sets without much trouble.
