Tennis | Ryan Harrison vs Nick Kyrgios
Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

Australian tennis superstar will open his 2019 campaign at the ATP Brisbane International where he will be facing Ryan Harrison from the United States.

Ryan Harrison enters this tournament having last played at the 2018 ATP Swiss Indoors. It was a tough end of season for Harrison as he struggled to compete which means the American has not won any matches in an age. The last time Ryan Harrison won a match was at the ATP Winston Salem Open which was prior to the 2018 US Open. The biggest issue for Ryan Harrison was his return game as he had only won 3 return games since his last win. This match has a very interesting set up as Harrison and Kyrgios played in the final of this event last season. While Harrison lost that match, the American will take confidence from his result 12 months ago.

On the other side of the coin, Nick Kyrgios enters this match as the reigning champion. Kyrgios is a very talented player but his off-court problems have caused his to struggle and that was evident near the end of last season as the Australian played very poorly. The last time that Nick Kyrgios played was at the 2018 ATP Kremlin Cup in Russia where he was eliminated in the opening round. Returning to the Brisbane International should give Nick Kyrgios confidence as he has a great record at this venue and will have the support of his home fans.

Nick Kyrgios and Ryan Harrison have played 3 times in the past with the Australian winning on all 3 occasions. The most recent match was the final of this event in 2018 when Nick Kyrgios won.

All in all, I am expecting Nick Kyrgios to win. Nick Kyrgios has an exceptional record against Harrison and I see the Australian being too strong, especially at home.

Nick Kyrgios
