Nicolas Jarry and Grigor Dimitrov meet in the third round of the 2019 tennis Barcelona.
Nicolas Jarry is coming off a three sets win over Alexander Zverev that took 34 games to decide. In the victory, Jarry won 62 percent of his first serve points and 53 percent of his second serve points. Jarry won 59 percent of his total service points and converted on four of his 10 break points. Jarry showed great composure for a player who entered the match as a big underdog and lost the opening set in a half hour. Jarry now has three career wins over top-10 players, all of which have come since last year. Jarry has a chance to win three straight matches for the first time since making the semifinals in Kitzbuhel, which was back in August. Jarry has split his last six matches on clay court.
Grigor Dimitrov is coming off a three sets win over Fernando Verdasco that took 30 games to decide. In the victory, Dimitrov won 66 percent of his first serve points and 57 percent of his second serve points. Dimitrov won 63 percent of his total service points and converted on six of his 15 break points. Dimitrov kept his head in the game after losing a frustrating second set tiebreak and consistently had success against Verdasco’s second serve. Dimitrov can be hit or miss at times, but he’s showing great mental toughness as of late and has quietly won nine of his last 13 matches. Dimitrov has a chance to win at least two matches for the fourth time in his last five tournaments. Dimitrov has won five of his last seven matches on clay court.
There’s no match history between these two players.
Dimitrov can produce a stink here and there out of nowhere, but he’s playing well currently and isn’t letting poor games get away from him. Jarry has little to no recent success on the main tour and even his win against Zverev isn’t that notable when you consider the form he’s been in the past few weeks.
This is a match Dimitrov should have little trouble with, winning in straight sets.
