|Date & Time||Saturday July 8, 2017, 9:00 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Djokovic -1200 / Gulbis +800 -- Over/Under:
Novak Djokovic and Ernests Gulbis meet in the third round of the 2017 Wimbledon.
Novak Djokovic is coming off a straight sets win over Adam Pavlasek that took 23 games to decide. In the victory, Djokovic won 80 percent of his first serve points and 74 percent of his second serve points. Djokovic has now won his last 14 sets on grass and is coming off a match in which he dropped just 13 service points. Djokovic is playing with confidence and hitting his spots, and he hasn’t been broken once in each of his last three matches. Djokovic has been bounced before the fourth round of a grand slam twice since 2010. Djokovic hopes to make the fourth round of the Wimbledon for a 10th time. Djokovic has won six straight matches on grass court.
Ernests Gulbis is coming off a straight sets win over Juan Martin Del Potro that took 33 games to decide. In the victory, Gulbis won 82 percent of his first serve points and 57 percent of his second serve points. Gulbis also has yet to drop a set this tournament and is coming off a match in which he hit 60 winners and 25 aces. Gulbis has combined for 84 winners in his last two matches and gives himself a shot if he can keep it up. Gulbis has 17 wins over top-10 players. Gulbis hopes to make the fourth round of a grand slam for the second time since 2015. Gulbis has never made the fourth round of the Wimbledon. Gulbis has won four of his last six matches on grass court.
These two have played seven times and Djokovic has won six of those meetings. The most recent match was in the 2015 Canadian Masters, a match Djokovic won in straight sets. Gulbis’ only win over Djokovic came in the 2009 Brisbane International.
Gulbis is coming off his best win in quite some time and does have a history of beating some of the top players in the world. The problem is Gulbis hasn’t played consistent tennis on the main tour since 2014 and has had zero return grand slam success, especially on grass. Djokovic has found his rhythm on grass the last few weeks and has dominated his service game. Gulbis will have trouble winning a set here.
Djokovic gets to the fourth round.
