The Line: -- Over/Under:
Novak Djokovic and Feliciano Lopez meet Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the 2015 US Open.
Novak Djokovic is coming off a four set victory over Roberto Bautista Agut and has played 13 sets this tournament overall. Djokovic is winning at least 69 percent of his first serve points and 52 percent of his second serve points. Djokovic has produced 25 aces, 106 winners and 87 unforced errors in his last three matches. Djokovic really had a poor service game in his last match but started to pick things up towards the end. Djokovic has had 30-plus unforced errors in his last two matches but for the most part has played some clean, solid tennis. Djokovic should still be considered the front runner to at the very least get to the finals. Djokovic has made at least the semifinals in each of his last six grand slam appearances. Djokovic hasn’t been bounced before the semifinals of the US Open since 2006.
Feliciano Lopez is coming off a straight sets victory over Fabio Fognini and has played 14 sets this tournament overall. Lopez is winning at least 71 percent of his first serve points and 44 percent of his second serve points. Lopez has combined for 45 aces, 106 winners and 96 unforced errors in his last three matches. Lopez has been solid with his service game, winning better than 80 percent of his first serve points in three of his four matches. Lopez has also kept his errors down for the most part and should be gaining confidence after back-to-back straight sets wins over ranked opponents. Lopez has never reached the semifinals of a grand slam in his career. This will be Lopez’s first grand slam quarterfinal appearance since the 2011 Wimbledon.
These two have met five times, and Djokovic has beaten Lopez in all five matches. The most recent match was in the 2012 Shanghai Masters, and this will be the fifth time they meet on hard court. Lopez has taken just one set against Djokovic in his career.
This match could get a little interesting if Djokovic has another poor service game. Lopez has been a rock his last two matches and is playing some clean tennis.
However, who are we kidding?
Djokovic wins this match.
