Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

Novak Djokovic has made it into the quarterfinals of the 2018 ATP Paris Masters where he will face Maric Cilic. Both Cilic and Djokovic are among the top 10 ranked players in the world meaning we should expect a top tennis match.

With Nadal’s retirement from this event, Djokovic has now returned as world number 1. Djokovic had an easy third-round win as he won the first set 6-1 and led the second set 2-1 before his opponent retired. During that match, Djokovic served exceptionally well as he won over 70% of the points played during his service games which prevented his opponent from winning any return games. In addition, Djokovic also returned serve well as he won over 50% of the points played during his opponent’s service games which allowed him to win 3 break points. Djokovic has an exceptional record at this event as he has won the Paris Masters 4 times in the past. With such strong form and an outstanding record at this venue, Novak Djokovic will be extremely hard to stop.

On the other side of the court, Marin Cilic beat Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets in his previous match. It was a close match but Cilic won a first set tiebreaker before breaking Dimitrov’s serve to win the second set 6-4. Cilic has served exceptionally well all tournament as he has only lost 2 service games in the entire event. The return games have been the biggest issue for Cilic as he has only averaged 1.25 return games won per set. This match will be a massive test for Marin Cilic and he will need to be at his best if he wishes to compete with Djokovic.

Novak Djokovic and Marin Cilic have a long history as they have played 17 times in the past. Unfortunately for Cilic, Djokovic has a record of 15-2 in head-to-head matches.

All in all, I am going to pick Novak Djokovic to win this match. Djokovic has been in outstanding form over the past few months and with such a good record at Paris, he is my pick to win this tournament. I Djokovic easily making it through to the semifinals.
