Novak Djokovic and Martin Klizan meet in the first round of the 2017 Wimbledon.

Novak Djokovic is fresh off winning the Eastbourne International over Gael Monfils, a match in which he won 41 percent of his return points and got 74 percent of his first serves in play. Djokovic has now made at least the quarterfinals in each of his last five tournaments and has won nine of his last 10 sets played on grass court. There’s always a chance Djokovic has one of those bizarre matches where he struggles with his play and loses, but he has to like his current form and his chances to make a run in this tournament as well. Djokovic hasn’t lost in the first round of a grand slam since the 2006 Australian Open. Djokovic has won 10 of his last 11 matches on grass court.

Martin Klizan has one grass court match under his belt this season, which was a loss to Marsel Ilhan in which he retired in the second set. Klizan has struggled to find his form, as he’s 10-14 this season on the main tour and hasn’t looked good since making the quarterfinals of this years Hungarian Open. Klizan hopes to make the second round of a grand slam for the fifth time since 2015. Klizan has made the second round of the Wimbledon once in his career, which has in the 2012. Klizan has three career wins over top-10 players, but none have come since 2014. Klizan has lost his last six matches on grass court.

These two have played three times in the past and Djokovic has won each match. The most recent match was in this years Mexican Open, a match he won in straight sets. Klizan has won one of seven sets against Djokovic.

Klizan hasn’t won a match on grass since Eastbourne in 2014 when he beat Donald Young in straight sets. It’s tough seeing this being the match that ends the streak, especially with Djokovic picking up momentum in Eastbourne and not dropping a set.

Djokovic cruises in straight sets.
