The Line: -- Over/Under:
Novak Djokovic and Munar Jaume meet in the second round of the 2018 tennis French Open.
Novak Djokovic is coming off a straight sets win over Rogerio Dutra Silva that took 29 games to decide. In the victory, Djokovic won 73 percent of his first serve points and 54 percent of his second serve points. Djokovic looked more like himself in his opening victory, as he won 49 percent of his return points and broke six times. While it’s still early in the tournament and you’re really only as good as your last performance in this spot, Djokovic is playing his best tennis in quite some time and that semifinals run in the Rome Masters seems to have given him new confidence. When Djokovic is playing like this with a chance to get even better, he’s obviously capable of making a deep tournament run. Djokovic has lost before the third round of a grand slam once before 2009. Djokovic has won six of his last eight matches on clay court.
Munar Jaume is coming off a five sets win over David Ferrer that took 56 games to decide. In the victory, Jaume won 67 percent of his first serve points and 47 percent of his second serve points. Jaume is coming off a marathon match in which he won 60 percent of his service points and grinded out the grinder. It’s usually Ferrer who outlasts his opponent in a lengthy match, but the young Spaniard got the best of the more experienced player for the biggest win of his career yet. Jaume just turned 21 years old earlier this month and has very little experience on the ATP main tour, so everything he’s doing now is simply to grow. After such a draining performance, it’ll be interesting to see how much Jaume has left in the tank at this moment. Jaume has a chance to reach the third round of a grand slam for the first time in his career. Jaume matches on clay court.
This will be the first match between these two players.
Jaume has little to no experience on the main tour and is playing one of the best players in the world who is starting to find his form. This will be a good learning experience for the young man and make him better, but a win is simply not in the cards. Djokovic is starting to find himself and should have the rest of the field a little worried.
Djokovic rolls in three sets.
