Novak Djokovic and Quentin Halys meet Wednesday night in the second round of the 2016 Australian Open.
Novak Djokovic is coming off a straight sets win over Hyeon Chung. In the victory, Djokovic had 10 aces, got 66 percent of his first serves in play and hit 40 winners. Djokovic won all 15 of his net points and had just 27 unforced errors. Djokovic has shown early why he’s the favorite to win this tournament and continues to play pretty much flawless tennis. It’s going to take a monster performance to even come close to beating Djokovic this tournament. Djokovic has now lost just one match since the ATP World Tour Finals. Djokovic hasn’t lost in the second round of a major since the 2008 Wimbledon.
Quentin Halys is coming off a four-set victory over Ivan Dodig in the first round. In the victory, Halys had 13 aces, got 59 percent of his first serves in play and had 17 break point chances. Halys hit 68 winners and had 48 unforced errors. Halys is just 19 years old and is simply gaining valuable experience by playing in his first Australian Open and competing against the top players in the world. Anything after his first grand slam victory should be considered a bonus for the young Halys. Halys has a strong service game and can be a solid player if he continues to get his first serve in play at a high clip. This is the furthest Halys has been in a grand slam.
This is the first time these two will meet on the tennis court.
Halys is in way over his head, as this is the biggest match of his young career and he hasn’t played any of the big boys yet. Djokovic should have little trouble in this match and will cover the big spread.
