Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas meet in the third round round of the 2018 tennis Rogers Cup.
Novak Djokovic is coming off a straight sets win over Peter Polansky that took 19 games to decide. In the victory, Djokovic won 83 percent of his first serve points and 57 percent of his second serve points. Djokovic won 74 percent of his total service points and didn’t face a single break point. Djokovic has now been broken just twice in his last seven sets, proving just how dialed in that serve is at the moment. Djokovic has also won each of his last nine matches and 23 of his last 27 sets played. I think it’s safe to say that Djokovic is back, and he probably should be the favorite to win the Rogers Cup for what would be a fifth time. Djokovic has won five of his last eight matches on hard court.
Stefanos Tsitsipas is coming off a straight sets win over Dominic Thiem that took 22 games to decide. In the victory, Tsitsipas won 95 percent of his first serve points and 60 percent of his second serve points. Tsitsipas lost just two of 40 first serve points and managed to win 83 percent of his total service points. Tsitsipas has faced just one break point in his last four sets, and if he continues to serve at such a level, he’s going to be a tough out in this tournament. Tsitsipas is playing some of his most consistent tennis in quite some time and has a chance to win three matches for the third straight tournament. Tsitsipas has four career wins over top-10 players, three of which have come this year. Tsitsipas has won five of his last six matches on hard court.
This will be the first ever meeting between these two players.
Tsitsipas is worth a look based on his recent consistency and the way he’s serving, but when Djokovic is on, you rarely bet against him. Djokovic is probably the hottest player in the world right now and is a four-time champion at this tournament. There’s no betting against him right now.
Djokovic makes the quarterfinals.
