Fernando Verdasco looks to begin 2020 strongly in the 2020 Rio Open as he meets fellow Spaniard, Pablo Andujar, in the first-round.
Fernando Verdasco can be one of the toughest opponents on tour. The Spaniard is so strong and fast around the court that it allows him to play extremely long rallies and win incredible points. However, as of recent, Verdasco has struggled to find the consistency in his game. Verdasco can play and challenge the best, he just needs to find his best tennis again. Now that clay-court tournaments have started again, Verdasco will fancy his chances of getting back to winning ways as he is on his favourite surface.
Pablo Andujar has really been underwhelming to watch in recent years. Andujar used to be very good and a very promising prospect in the tennis world. However, recently he has completely lost the plot. Andujar just doesn't seem to give it his all on the court and this results in easy points lost and this makes him lose to opponents who he should not be losing to. Will Andujar get himself back on track in 2020, or will it be more of the same?
This will be the 6th meeting between both players, with Verdasco leading the H2H 3-2. Verdasco is the better player, has more confidence and he will fancy his chances here. Unless Andujar comes out and plays completely differently than we have seen in the last couple of years, Verdasco will make it to the second-round.
Fernando Verdasco to win.
