Czech tennis superstar, Petra Kvitova has made it into the semifinals of the 2019 WTA Sydney International. At this stage of the tournament, Kvitova is set to play Aliaksandra Sasnovich from Belarus.
Aliaksandra Sasnovich has had a very strong tournament as she has only lost 1 set in the entire event. In her previous match, Sasnovich beat Timea Bacsinszky in straight sets. During the win, Aliaksandra Sasnovich returned serve exceptionally well as she won over 54% of her receiving points. This allowed Sasnovich to win 5 break points which resulted in the overall victory. It is also important to note that Aliaksandra Sasnovich served well during her previous match as she won over 77% of her service games. This is expected to be Aliaksandra Sasnovich’s biggest test in this tournament as she is facing an elite player in Kvitova.
On the other side of the coin, Petra Kvitova beat Angelique Kerber in her previous match. It was a big win for Kvitova since she was facing the second best player in the world. Kvitova played exceptionally well as she won 4 return games while allowing Kerber to break her serve only once. It has been a relatively tough draw for Kvitova but she has won all her matches with ease which shows that she is in exceptional form. The Sydney International is a tournament that Petra Kvitova has won in the past and considering her current form, she will be confident as she heads into this match.
Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Petra Kvitova have played once in the past. The match was played at Wimbledon in 2018 with Aliaksandra Sasnovich winning in 3 sets.
As far as this match is concerned, I am going to pick Petra Kvitova to win. While Aliaksandra Sasnovich has been playing well, Kvitova is a far more accomplished player. Kvitova just beat Angelique Kerber and she looks to be hitting the ball very well. Kvitova is an exceptionally talented player and I see being too strong for Aliaksandra Sasnovich.
