Petra Kvitova and Angelique Kerber meet in the fourth round of the 2016 US Open.
Petra Kvitova is coming off a straight sets win over Elina Svitolina that took 19 games to decide. In the victory, Kvitova won 69 percent of her first serve points and 44 percent of her second serve points. Kvitova has not dropped a set this tournament and has now won 12 of her last 14 sets overall. Kvitova is clearly riding her olympic wave in which she won the bronze medal, as this is easily some of her best and most consistent tennis she’s played in a while. Kvitova hopes to make back-to-back US Open quarterfinal appearances and her third grand slam quarterfinal overall since 2014. Kvitova has won 11 of her last 13 matches on hard court.
Angelique Kerber is coming off a straight sets win over Catherine Bellis that took 14 games to decide. In the victory, Kerber won 69 percent of her first serve points and 47 percent of her second serve points. Kerber has dropped just 10 games in her last two matches and has won eight of her last 10 sets. Kerber continues to play rock solid tennis and has shown no signs of slowing down despite a heavy workload that includes 14 singles matches since the Canadian Masters. Kerber hopes to make her third grand slam quarterfinal of the season. Kerber has won 12 of her last 14 matches on hard court.
These two have split their previous eight meetings. The most recent match was in this year's Stuttgart Open, a match Kerber won in three sets. Kvitova has beaten Kerber in three of the last five meetings, but her last win came in 2014.
This is a hell of a fourth round match between two players who have played each other tough in the past. However, Kerber has been the most consistent women’s player for months now and will be fresh after not breaking a sweat in her third round victory.
Kerber is too hot to bet against and should make her third grand slam quarterfinal of the season.
