World number 8 from the Czech Republic, Petra Kvitova has made it into the semifinals of the 2019 WTA Australian Open. At this stage of the tournament, Petra Kvitova is set to play against Danielle Rose Collins from the United States.
It has been a dream tournament for Danielle Rose Collins as she has far exceeded her expected result. During this event, Collins has beaten the likes of Julia Gorges, Caroline Garcia and Angelique Kerber. In her quarterfinal clash, Collins beat Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. It was a close contest but Collins played exceptionally well in the 2nd and 3rd sets to secure the victory. During the win, Danielle Rose Collins returned serve exceptionally well as she won 45% of her receiving points which resulted in her winning 5 break points. Prior to this event, Collins had never made it past the first round of a Grand Slam. While the run has been outstanding, it will be interesting to see if Collins can hold her nerve against a former Grand Slam winner.
On the other side of the court, Petra Kvitova won her previous match with dominance as she beat Ashleigh Barty in straight sets. It was a very strong performance by Kvitova as she won 3 return games while winning 100% of her service games. Kvitova is hugely experienced and has won a Grand Slam in the past. With a good record on the big stage, Petra Kvitova will enter this match as the favourite.
Petra Kvitova and Danielle Rose Collins have played once in the past. The match was a few weeks back at WTA Brisbane where Petra Kvitova won in 3 sets.
Taking everything into consideration, I am going to have to pick Petra Kvitova to win this match. While Collins has had an exceptional tournament, Kvitova looks to be too well to lose. Kvitova is much more accomplished and experienced when compared to Collins. With all that in mind, I see Petra Kvitova making her 2nd Grand Slam final.
