Czech tennis player, Petra Kvitova has made it into the third round of the 2019 Wuhan Open in China. Kvitova will play against Sloane Stephens from the United States for a spot in the quarterfinals.
Petra Kvitova was very impressive in the previous round as she defeated Polona Hercog in straight sets. It was the first time that Kvitova was playing since the US Open and she managed to dust off any rust by serving exceptionally well. Petra Kvitova won 65% of her service points which allowed her to win 100% of her service games. Kvitova also won a tiebreaker and a return game to secure the win. The Wuhan Open is a very strong tournament for Kvitova as she has won the title twice. With her winning momentum returning, Kvitova will be hoping to win her third Wuhan Open title.
On the other side of the coin, Sloane Stephens won her previous match in 3 sets. It was a decent performance by Sloane as she impressed with her receiving. Sloane Stephens won 52% of her receiving points which allowed her to break her opponent’s serve on 7 occasions. While the receiving was strong, Sloane looked poor when serving as she only won 67% of her service games. It has been a tough few months for Sloane Stephens and she is expected to be challenged in this match.
Sloane Stephens and Petra Kvitova have played each other three in the past with Sloane Stephens winning on 2 occasions and Petra Kvitova winning once. The most recent match between these two players was in 2017 at the Western and Southern Open where Sloane won in straight sets
This should be a close match since Sloane Stephens and Kvitova are both very strong players. That being said, I see Petra Kvitova winning this match. Petra Kvitova looked very impressed during her previous match and she seems to be playing with the confidence that helped her win 27 WTA titles. Kvitova has an outstanding record at Wuhan and I see her being good enough to win this match and reach another quarterfinal at this event.
