Philipp Kohlschreiber vs. Novak Djokovic 2015 Wimbledon Tennis Pick, Odds, Prediction

Philipp Kohlschreiber and Novak Djokovic meet Monday in the first round of the 2015 Wimbledon.

Philipp Kohlschreiber enters this match splitting his last eight matches, which includes a three-set loss to Roger Federer in Halle in his most recent contest. Kohlschreiber has had a real up-and-down season this year and has really struggled to have a breakthrough performance. Kohlschreiber did appear in the BMW Open Final, but that’s just about the only success he’s had this season. The good news for Kohlschreiber is that he has taken some solid players the distance, such as Federer, Gael Monfils and Andy Murray, which should give him some sort of confidence here. However, Kohlschreiber will have to play a clean match to have any chance. Kohlschreiber has surpassed the first round of a major in his last six appearances.

Novak Djokovic has won 24 of his last 25 matches and will be eager to bounce back after losing the French Open Final to Stan Wawrinka. Djokovic has proven to be the best player in the world, as he’s hitting winners left and right and putting points away quickly. Djokovic made a lot of unforced errors in his last match against Wawrinka, but you really don’t expect that to be the case again. Djokovic hasn’t played a match since the French Open, so he should be well rested and ready to make a run at his third Wimbledon title. Djokovic has lost just two matches in his last four major appearances. Djokovic has not been eliminated in the first round of a major since the 2006 Australian Open.

These two have faced each other seven times in the past, and Djokovic has won six of those meetings. The last meeting was in the 2014 Paris Masters and Kohlschreiber’s only victory came in the 2009 French Open. This will be the first time these two have played on grass.

I think it’s safe to say this match is going to get ugly, as Djokovic is in peak form and Kohlschreiber hasn’t shown nearly enough consistency to make me believe he’ll even keep this close.
