Rafael Nadal will begin his 2019 ATP Paris Masters campaign in the second round where he will face Adrian Mannarino from France.

Rafael Nadal has had an extended break from tennis following his wedding but will be returning with the knowledge that he will regain world number 1 spot from Novak Djokovic following this tournament. Despite not playing for a few weeks, Nadal enters this match in outstanding form and will be extremely confident considering his recent results. Rafael Nadal has won his last 11 matches having not lost since his semi-final defeat to Roger Federer at Wimbledon. Nadal will be desperate to do well at this tournament as a win will secure him the year-end world number 1 ranking.

On the other side of the coin, Adrian Mannarino enters this match having defeated Casper Ruud in straight sets in the previous round. The receiving was especially strong from Adrian Mannarino as he won 45% of his receiving points which allowed him to break his opponents serve on 4 occasions. The serving was also strong from Mannarino as he hit 9 aces which helped him win 80% of his service points and 89% of his service games. Despite his previous round performance, Mannarino is expected to struggle in this match as he is playing against the number 2 seed.

Rafael Nadal and Adrian Mannarino have played each other once in the past. The match was played in 2016 at the China Open where Nadal won in straight sets.

Despite his result in the opening round, I see Adrian Mannarino losing this match. Rafael Nadal is a significantly stronger player and the Spaniard enters this match in outstanding form following big wins during the North American season. I see there being a big difference in skill which is resulting in my suggesting that this match will end with Rafa winning in straight sets.
