Rafael Nadal and Andrey Rublev meet in the quarterfinals of the 2017 US Open.

Rafael Nadal is coming off a straight sets win over Alexandr Dolgopolov that took 25 games to decide. In the victory, Nadal won 82 percent of his first serve points and 79 percent of his second serve points. Nadal is coming off his best performance of the tournament, as he dropped just 12 service points and produced just 11 unforced errors. If Nadal can play like that for three more matches, he’s going to win yet another grand slam title. Nadal has been sharp with his serve all tournament and has combined for 62 winners in his last two matches. Nadal hopes to make his third grand slam semifinal of the season and his sixth overall at the US Open. Nadal has won 10 of his last 12 grand slam quarterfinal matches. Nadal has won seven of his last nine matches on hard court.

Andrey Rublev is coming off a straight sets win over David Goffin that took 34 games to decide. In the victory, Rublev won 82 percent of his first serve points and 48 percent of his second serve points. Rublev is easily enjoying the most success of his life at 19 years old, as his previous deepest grand slam run was second round finishes in this years Australian Open and Wimbledon. While he’d love to keep it going, anything here on out is gravy for the young Rublev. However, Rublev has hit 36 or more winners in his last three matches, so this is somebody who can clearly get hot and make big shots that can change a match. Nerves are also key for somebody as young as Rublev. Rublev hopes to make his first every grand slam semifinal appearance. Rublev has won five of his last six matches on hard court.

This will be the first match between these two.

Give credit to Rublev for making it this far and putting his name on the map, but this is where it ends. Experience is key the deeper you get in the tournament, and we have possibly the best to ever do it against a 19-year-old who has no idea what to expect on the big stage.

Nadal cruises in three sets.
