Rafael Nadal will be making his return to tennis after Wimbledon as the world number 1 prepares for the US Open. Nadal will be playing in the Rogers Cup in Toronto where he will start his campaign in the round of 32 after getting a bye in the opening round due to his seed. The Spaniard will take on Benoit Paire from France in his opening match. Both players are very skillful and experienced so we should get a great contest.
Rafael Nadal was eliminated in the semifinals at Wimbledon after losing a 5 set thriller to Novak Djokovic. That loss would not have made Nadal happy since he would have hoped to win back-to-back grand slams after he had already won the French Open. It has been a while since Rafael Nadal last played on hard courts and the Spaniard will be determined to do well in this tournament so he is acclimatized before the start of the US Open later this month. This is not the easiest first round match Nadal could have gotten but it should not make much of a difference for a player of Nadal’s quality.
On the other hand, Benoit Paire will look to cause a massive upset. The Frenchman looked very good in his opening match which he won with ease. This will be a much harder test for him and it will be interesting to see how he plays Nadal. Benoit Paire will need to play at his best if he wishes to even compete with the Spanish master.
Taking everything into consideration, I am going to predict that Rafael Nadal wins this match. The Spaniard is a class above his opponent and it is hard to see Paire cause the world number 1 much trouble. This should be an easy game for Nadal that I expect him to win in straight sets.
