In the quarterfinals of the 2020 Australian Open, Rafael Nadal is set to play against Dominic Thiem from Austria.

Dominic Thiem won his previous match with some ease as he defeated Gael Monfils in straight sets. It was a comfortable victory for Thiem as he won all of his service games and 4 return games. It was a well-rounded performance by Thiem with the Austrian comfortably holding serve while consistently challenging Monfils’ serve. Dominic Thiem looked rusty at the start of the tournament but he has gradually improved and he seems to be playing his best tennis at the moment. This is expected to be a big challenge for Dominic Thiem as he is playing against the top seed.

On the other side of the coin, Rafael Nadal defeated Nick Kyrgios in 4 sets in the previous round. Nadal had a poor second set but that was the only negative for the Spaniard. Rafa looked in good touch as he controlled the match with his serve while consistently causing Kyrgios problems. The serving was very strong from Rafael Nadal as he hit 12 aces which helped him win 78% of his service games and 90% of his service games. Rafael Nadal has looked very comfortable throughout this tournament and he will be very confident as he enters this match.

Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem have played each other 13 times in the past. Nadal has won on 9 occasions while Thiem has won 4 times. The most recent match between these two players was in 2019 at the French Open where Nadal won in 4 sets.

This should be a very close match since Thiem and Nadal have had some outstanding clashes. That being said, I see Rafael Nadal winning this match. When it comes to big matches, Rafa has always had an edge over Thiem and I see the Spaniard having the momentum in this match. I am expecting this match to last 4 or 5 sets with Nadal getting the victory.
