Rafael Nadal vs Grigor Dimitrov 4/18/19 Monte Carlo Tennis Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

Rafael Nadal has made it into the third round of the 2019 ATP Monte Carlo Open in Monaco. At this stage of the tournament, Rafa will face Grigor Dimitrov from Bulgaria.

Rafael Nadal had a dominant win in the previous round as the number 2 seed defeated Roberto Bautista Agut in straight sets. It was an exceptional performance by Nadal as he only lost 2 games in the entire match. Nadal’s receiving was especially impressive as the Spaniard won 68% of his receiving points which resulted in him winning 5 break points. Nadal also won all of his service games to ensure it was a very easy win. Rafael Nadal has an outstanding record at the Monte Carlo Open as he has won this title 11 times in the past. Nadal has not lost a match at this venue since 2015. Considering his current form and record at Monte Carlo, Rafa will be very tough to stop.

On the other side of the coin, Grigor Dimitrov won his previous match in straight sets. It was solid win by the Bulgarian as he won 91% of his service and 2 return games. Dimitrov is a very accomplished player and has won big title such as the ATP Finals. That being said, Dmitrov is playing an exceptional opponent and he will be a massive underdog for this match.

Rafael Nadal and Grigor Dimitrov have a long history as the pair have played each other 12 times in the past. As it currently stands, Nadal has won on 11 occasions and Dimitrov has won once. The most recent match between these two players was at this event in 2018 where Nadal won in straight sets.

All in all, I am going to pick Rafael Nadal to win this match. Dimitrov is a very capable player but he is not on the same level as Rafa. Rafa is an all-time great and he is near unbeatable on clay. Nadal is always at his best in Monte Carlo and I see him winning this match.

Pick:
Rafael Nadal
