Jiri Vesely is coming off a four sets win over Fabio Fognini that took 39 games to decide. In the victory, Vesely won 74 percent of his first serve points and 59 percent of his second serve points. Vesely got 74 percent of his first serves in play, won 70 percent of his total service points and hit 37 winners in his third round victory. While Vesely can clean up the unforced errors, he’s getting a ton of free points with his serve and that confidence spreads to the rest of his game. Vesely is playing some decent tennis at the moment and is in the fourth round of a grand slam for just the second time in his career. Vesely has a chance to make his first ever grand slam quarterfinal appearance. Vesely has two career wins over top-10 players, both coming in 2016. Vesely has won six of his last seven matches on grass court.
These two have played once, which was in Hamburg of 2015, a match Nadal won in straight sets. The match took 23 games to be decided.
We know the deal with Nadal and other top players, they rarely lose in grand slams against inexperienced or lesser players. Unless there’s an injury, guys like Nadal, Djokovic and others usually crush guys on the big stage who aren’t used to being there in the first place. Vesely will have a hard time winning a set here.
