Khachanov vs. Nadal
|Date & Time||Thursday April 19, 2018, 11:00 PM (EDT)|
The Line: -- Over/Under:
Rafael Nadal and Karen Khachanov meet in the third round of the 2018 tennis Monte Carlo Masters.
Rafael Nadal is coming off a straight sets win over Aljaz Bedene that took 16 games to decide. In the victory, Nadal won 75 percent of his first serve points and 69 percent of his second serve points. Nadal barely broke a sweat in his opening match, as he got 67 percent of his first serves in play, broke four times and won 47 percent of his return points. It’s another day at the office for Nadal on clay court, a surface he has to be favored on every time he takes the court. That’s not much to be said about Nadal that hasn’t already been said when he plays in this tournament. Nadal has been bounced before the quarters in the Monte Carlo Masters just once in his career. Nadal has won eight straight matches on hard court.
Karen Khachanov is coming off a straight sets win over Gilles Simon that took 16 games to decide. In the victory, Khachanov won 77 percent of his first serve points and 67 percent of his second serve points. Khachanov has yet to drop a set this tournament and is coming off a match in which he wasnt broken once and won 50 percent of his return points. Khachanov gives himself a chance to be competitive if he can be aggressive with the return and keep the ball in play like he has up to this point. Khachanov has two career wins over top-10 players, both coming last year. Khachanov has a chance to reach his first ever quarterfinal in a ATP World Tour Masters 1000. Khachanov has won five of his last seven matches on hard court.
These two have played twice and Nadal has won both meetings in straight sets. Both matches took place in 2017.
I said it once, and I’ll say it again. If you’re picking against a healthy Nadal on clay court, you must like burning money.
Nadal reaches another Monte Carlo Masters quarterfinal.
