Rafael Nadal vs Nick Kyrgios - 2/27/19 ATP Tour - Mexican Open Pick, Odds, and Prediction

John E. Sokolowski-USA TODAY Sports

The top seed at the 2019 ATP Mexican Open, Rafael Nadal has made it into the second round of the tournament. At this stage of the tournament, Rafa is set to play against Nick Kyrgios from Australia.

Nick Kyrgios enters this match having beaten Andreas Seppi in the opening round. It was a dominant display by Kyrgios as he dominated with his service. During the win, Nick Kyrgios won 70% of his service points which resulted in him winning 90% of his service games. Kyrgios also won 4 return games which ensured that he won the match in straight sets. It has been a tough start to the 2019 season for Nick Kyrgios as he has not made it past the second round of any tournaments. With the world number 2 as his opponent, it will be tough for Nick Kyrgios to make it past the second round in this tournament also.

On the other side of the court, Rafael Nadal won his opening match comfortably. Nadal beat Mischa Zverev in straight sets by winning 100% of his service games and 33% of his return games. This is the second tournament in 2019 for Nadal with the other being the Australian Open where he finished second. Rafael Nadal has won this tournament twice in the past meaning that he should be very comfortable with the setting.

Rafael Nadal and Nick Kyrgios have played each other 5 times in the past. Nadal has the stronger head-to-head record of 3-2. The most recent match between these two players was in 2017 at the China Open where Nadal won in straight sets.

As far as this match is concerned, I am going to pick Rafael Nadal to win. Kyrgios has had a tough 2019 season and he looks in reasonably poor touch as he enters this match. Nadal, on the other hand, finished second at the Australian Open and has a great record at this event. With that in mind, I see Rafa easing into the third round.
