Haase vs. Nadal
|Date & Time||Wednesday May 31, 2017, 9:00 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Haase +2100 / Nadal -4000 -- Over/Under:
Rafael Nadal and Robin Haase meet in the second round of the 2017 French Open.
Rafael Nadal is coming off a straight sets win over Benoit Paire that took 24 games to decide. In the victory, Nadal won 67 percent of his first serve points and 71 percent of his second serve points. Nadal continues to play impressive tennis on clay court this season and is fresh off a match in which he had just 18 unforced errors while winning 56 percent of his return points. If that's an indication of the Nadal we’re going to se all tournament, he has a great chance to win another French Open crown. Nadal hopes to make the third round of a grand slam for the fourth straight try. Nadal has never been bounced before the third round of the French Open. Nadal has won eight of his last nine matches on clay court.
Robin Haase is coming off a straight sets win over Alex DE Minaur that took 24 games to decide. In the victory, Haase won 79 percent of his first serve points and 58 percent of his second serve points. Haase made quick work of a player ranked 230th in the world and was able to hit 35 winners while doing it. Haase has struggled all season on clay court, so I’m not sure how confident he can be after getting to the second round of a grand slam for just the second time since the start of 2016. Haase hopes to make the third round of a grand slam for the first time since the 2011 Wimbledon. Haase has never made the third round of the French Open. Haase has lost four of his last six matches on clay court.
These two have played twice in the past and Nadal has won both meetings. The most recent match was in the 2016 Qatar Open, a match Nadal won in 17 games. This will be their first meeting on clay.
Haase hasn’t looked good at all on clay court this season and has had no grand slam success over the years. It's hard seeing him be the guy to stop Nadal in his current form. Nothing to see here if you have a Nadal future ticket.
Nadal wins this match in three sets.
