Stefanos Tsitsipas vs. Rafael Nadal
|Date & Time||Saturday May 18, 2019, 8:30 AM (EDT)|
The Line: Nadal -375 / Tsitsipas +328 -- Over/Under:
Spanish tennis superstar, Rafael Nadal has made it into the semifinals of the 2019 ATP Italian Open in Rome. At this stage of the tournament, Nadal will play against Stefanos Tsitsipas from Greece.
Stefanos Tsitsipas gained automatic qualification through the previous stage after his opponent, Roger Federer, retired prior to the start of their match. It has been a good tournament for Tsitsipas as he has won all of his matches in straight sets and has beaten the likes of Fabio Fognini. Prior to arriving in Italy, Tsitsipas played at the ATP Estoril Open and the ATP Madrid Masters. Stefanos Tsitsipas played well at both tournaments as the Greek superstar won the Estoril Open and finished second at the Madrid Masters. This will be a tough match for Stefanos Tsitsipas but he will be confident considering his recent form.
On the other side of the coin, Rafael Nadal defeated Fernando Verdasco in the previous round. It was a comfortable win for Nadal as he won the opening set 6-4 and the second set 6-0. During the win, Nadal won 5 return games while winning 88% of his service games. It has been a good season for Rafa but he will be determined to win this tournament as he has not won a title this season.
Rafael Nadal and Stefanos Tsitsipas met only days ago at the Madrid Masters. It was a close match between these two players but Tsitsipas was too strong as he won the match in 3 sets.
Both players have been in outstanding form and both will enter this match with the expectation of winning. That being said, I am going to pick Rafa to win this match. Rafa has been playing supreme tennis but has been consistently losing at the semifinal stage. It seems unlikely Nadal will fail to win another semifinal. Nadal is still the best player on clay and I see him winning this match.
