Richard Gasquet and Marcel Granollers square off early in the second round of the 2016 Wimbledon.

Richard Gasquet is coming off a straight sets win over Aljaz Bedene that took just over two hours. In the victory, Gasquet won 46 of his 59 first serve points and racked up 38 winners and 23 unforced errors. Gasquet looked much better than he did in the Queen's Club Championships and is going to be very tough to beat if he continues to win 78 percent of his first serve points. Gasquet doesn’t have a strong history at the Wimbledon but has improved in grand slam play overall recently and is moving around the court quite well at the moment. Gasquet hopes to make the third round of a grand slam for the seventh straight appearance. Gasquet has won six of his last eight matches on grass.

Marcel Granollers is coming off a four set win over Victor Estrella Burgos that took two and a half hours to finish. In the victory, Granollers won 59 of his 78 first serve points and racked up 36 winners and 28 unforced errors. Granollers came into this tournament in questionable form, but he just dominated a top-80 player and lost just six games in the first two sets. Granollers will have his work cut out for him here, but he’ll have a chance to make this a match if he continues to serve well. Granollers looks for his fourth third round grand slam appearance since 2014. Granollers has split his last eight matches on grass.

These two have met twice, and Gasquet won both matches in four sets. The matches took place in the 2013 Wimbledon and 2011 French Open.

The history doesn’t mean much considering they’re both very old matches. However, it’s safe to say Gasquet may be a better player than he was three or so years ago, and you also can’t ignore both contests took place in grand slams. Granollers is no pushover for a second round opponent, but he’s not consistent and doesn’t have the firepower to hang with Gasquet in a five-set match.

Give me Gasquet in four sets.
